Dollhouse Assembly
DIY Project Sheet No 2. Dollhouse Assembly
When all the wall and floor components are painted, it is time to assemble the doll house.
Careful Planning:Before assembly you will need to have a good idea of what you are going to include in you doll house fitout.
Doll house construction takes time and patience. And needs to be carried out in a sequential manner, to avoid undoing of work at a later stage.
You should decide – which rooms will be papered, or painted, and if so, what colours. Are you including lights? If so you will need to pre-wire. Have a plan of where you would like the lights to go. What do you want on the floors ? carpet, tiles, wood flooring, rugs?
If you are unsure of your options, please discuss with our friendly staff at House of Miniatures.
Assembly: Your Doll house kit will contain instructions about how to assemble your particular model of house. Please read these carefully prior to commencing. It is often a good idea to do a dry run assembly of the main components, following the instructions but using masking tape to hold the parts together. This will help to identify the edges that will need to be glued and clamped, and the sequence to be followed.
Glue: We recommend you use the following-Plywood construction – use PVA craft glueMDF panels – use MDF glue Gluing the Panels:We recommend using a clamp set (with a spacing of about 900mm between the fully opened jaws) to ensure pieces are held firmly in place until the glue sets. Two pairs of clamps will speed the process.
Run a small amount of glue along edges to be fixed, and clamp firmly in place. Remove excess glue and allow to set overnight.
Repeat process until the main frame is assembled. Some nails or small screws may be required to be used in some areas, as per the manufacturers instructions.
Fitting doors, windows, shutters and other trims: If you are going to apply wall paper and trims to the doll house, we recommend you leave the fitting of these items to a later stage. This will ensure they are not damaged, and will make the wall papering task easier.
